JOMOLHARI SOI YAKTSA( BASECAMP) TREK
The Jomolhari Trek takes you from 2,600m up to 4,000m and even 5,224m if you choose and is the most popular route taken. This is partly because of its access to Paro and Thimphu and the fact that it is of moderate difficulty. In addition, the duration of the trek is ideal route but a trek to Jomolhari can last for 7 nights to 9 nights and offer flexibility in tour itineraries. The chance to trek to the base of the impressive Lomolhari mountain, the beautiful campsites and the amazing view of the Jichu Drakey, Jho Drakey, Tshering Gang, Masang Gang are the other reasons why this trek deserves its reputation. The 9 days, including one acclimatization day at Jomolhari base camp and a day’s halt at Jangothang. This route takes you over the 4,890m Nyile-la and on to Lingshi Dzong(4,370m) before turning in the direction of Thimphu via another high pass. This is an excellent, challenging trek with great views of the high peaks. Depending on weather conditions, yaks takes over from ponies for the journey beyond the base camp. The trek ends in a valley near Thimphu. Since the route between Shodu and Barshong is quitetough because of stony trails, the alternative Jomolhari trek is, perhaps, more frequently trekked.

Detailed Itinerary
The path continues on through a forest of rhododendrons populated by Himalayan pheasants. We reach enormous cairns at Chole La Pass (4100m). From here, we drop down to Kiwi Chowa (4030m). Our route then continues to a pass at 3960m where four tracks converge. We follow the northern route past a ruin said to have once been a dzong to monitor the movement of locals between Wangduephodrang & Thimphu districts. A ridge leads to Talakha Peak (4300m) revealing great views of the Thimphu Valley. If there is a good weather, we can even view Kanchenjunga, Chomolhari and Jichu Drake from here. An hour’s walk, you are at the last camp, little above the Talekha Monastery.
